Because we were reviewing for the exam and we had guests, we skipped our normal bell work. (The guests only came by during 2nd block.)

2. Word list

I highlighted a number of vocabulary words and phrases that are particularly important for succeeding on the listening section for tomorrow's test. See the document below.

3. Conversations with French guests

We had 6 French students who are here for the week visit our class for most of the block. They started by introducing themselves. Then we formed small groups of 4. Each French student joined a group and we asked them questions in French to learn more about them.

4. Listening Practice

While the 6 visitors went outside to prepare something to share with you, we did a practice listening test for our French exam tomorrow.

5. French Slang, etc.

The 6 visitors taught us 6 slang words that are good to know when talking with French young people:

une caisse – car (voiture)

aller en boîte – go to a nightclub

un bahut – a school

un fute – un pantalon

des pompes – shoes

un pieux – a bed

Then we just continued our discussion about various interests, cultural differences, concerns, etc.

1.       They want to eat some fries.
2.       He is eating a plain omelette.

2. Discussion

We discussed conjugation and aspects of language change. We made comparisons between English and French and made connections between languages and with history.

3. Dialogue.

We read and listened to the dialogue on p. 170. We also discussed it and the two different cultures of tipping in the US and France. It is important to remember this information about cultural differences.

4. Lecture

We read pp. 172-173 in pairs or individually and responded to the questions in part A and B on p. 173. We turned these in. For part A we wrote VRAI or FAUX and for the FAUX sentences we rewrote them to make them VRAI. For part B, we tried to write in French if possible, but English was ok.

5. Chanson

We completed filling in the lyrics together for the song for this week.

quelque chose à boire - something to drink

We created a story together using the above structures. The story roughly goes as follows. If you were absent, please read and try to comprehend.

(l'histoire continue)
