1. Team building/leadership activity
Students had to arrange themselves in seats according to order of birthday. This helps us learn to cooperate as a class, gives students an opportunity to step up as leaders, and to discuss various modes of communication. It also gave us the opportunity to begin learning the months of the year.
2. Time capsule
Students filled out a document that will serve as a French 1 time capsule. It asks them to reflect on their starting place, their goals, and how they will achieve them in this class. We will "open" these time capsules toward the end of the semester to see how much we have accomplished.
3. TPR (Total physical response - technique for teaching through actions)
Students learned up to 7 words through actions. We focused on the following:
levez-vous - stand up
asseyez-vous - sit down
regardez - look at/watch
écoutez - listen
lentement - slowly
vite - quickly
arrêtez - stop
Learning a language is a process. Often students will need multiple days and many exposures to a word in context before they really "own" it. Today, I'm hoping they were able to begin understanding these words and do actions accordingly.
4. Survey
